Gifford Fire Aid: Rock Front Ranch
$434
Logu Selvam and KamalRaj Pakkirisamy are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Muthumani Balasubramani.
The Gifford Fire has devastated the Cuyama Corridor, including Rock Front Ranch, home to jujubes, honey, and honeybees. Equipment, trees, jujubes, and even our honeybees have been lost to the disaster. *Scroll to the bottom for an Itemized Needs list.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who has reached out to support our restoration in any way they can, and 100% of your donations will go toward saving our jujube trees, honeybees, and ranch. Please consider saving Rock Front Ranch with a donation in any amount you are able.
Vital infrastructure such as irrigation lines, fencing, water troughs and pasture has been destroyed. Hundreds of native species have been killed or displaced, and the Ranch offers the last green sanctuary in a sea of ashes. The flames and immediate danger have passed, but now begins the slow, patient process of rebuilding and nurturing the land back to health. Rock Front is the headquarters of Just Jujubes, a USDA Certified Organic Orchard, and RFR Honey. Both companies are small local and woman-owned and operated! All of our beehives have been destroyed, and about 1/4 of the orchard and its waterlines. All of our grazing pastures and the surrounding fences are gone.
The funds raised here will fund a roll off dumpster, wildflower and native grass seeds, irrigation lines, fencing supplies and feed for our displaced native birds and other animals. It is paramount that we continue to provide a refuge for our native neighbors.
From Ky: “We are running this fundraiser as a surprise for my mom, Alisha Taff. She has always been an exemplary steward of the land and my biggest supporter. During the fire she fought massive flames with wet blankets and a garden hose, while my Dad cut fires lines in our 1980 Kubota tractor! It is her turn to receive all the love and support she has poured into this place over 22 years of living here. Thank you for your support, and we are grateful to be a part of this community.”
