Our Father Fought for 23 Days in ICU and Left Us in Debt and Deep Pain
My name is Subhadra Tummalapally, and I’m from Khammam, India(Currently living in Atlanta, GA). I’m reaching out with a heavy heart, asking for help after my father passed away following a long and painful medical battle. What was supposed to be a normal life has now turned into a fight for survival for my mother, sister, our elderly grandparents, and me.
A few days ago, our father suffered a severe brain stroke due to immense stress caused by financial pressure and delays in government aid we were relying on. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency brain decompression surgery, followed by a tracheostomy to support his breathing. He remained in the ICU on ventilator support for 23 days, fighting every second, while we prayed for a miracle.
Each day in the ICU costs us around ₹25,000 (over $300) in medications alone — not including ICU charges, specialist visits, life support, and surgeries. We did everything we could to keep him alive, but despite all our efforts, we lost him.
Now we are left with not just the pain of losing him, but also a hospital bill of over ₹25 lakhs (approx. $30,000) that we still have to pay.
My mother has no job and no income. She is now left with:
